New Chevron Beads
Chevrons indulge Anne’s taste for the stripe. Traditionally chevrons are made of different coloured glass layers blown and stretched. The bubble becoming the hole, the pattern revealed by grinding back the layers. These chevrons are made in the contemporary method – still layered on a bubble but a series of canes have been made and then bundled and stretched again to build up the layers. This allows them to be both graphic and structural.
The over sized nature of these pieces, exaggerates their meticulous construction and inherent pattern. Their additional dimension takes them from a bead of adornment to an object of desire.
"While I love all chevrons, I have a preference for the disc cut chevron. The cross section reveals to me, the marrow or essence of what they are. There is absolutely no hiding while making or even wearing a cross section"
